He was predeceased by: his parents, John Joseph and Emma Elizabeth Schaffer (Bax); his wife Pat; his sons, Sidney Jerome Schaffer and Robert Allen Schaffer; and his siblings, Roman Schaffer, Victor Schaffer, Coletta Otto, Margaret Luzetti, Albert Schaffer, James Schaffer and Matilda Wall.
He is survived by: his close friend Catherine "Cat" Rackers of Argyle; his brother Fred Schaffer (Brenda); and his nephew Iberia. He is also survived by nieces; great-nephews and nieces; great-great-nephews and nieces; other relatives; and a host of friends.
