He was predeceased by: his parents, Warren Akes and Laura Akes (Buckingham); his daughter Joann Green (Dick); and his brothers, Dean "Static" Akes (Lila) and Wayne "Chigger" Akes.
He is survived by: his spouses, Zelma Oliver and Virginia Akes of Osceola; his sister-in-law Marion Akes of Osceola; his nephew Verle Akes (Arlene) of Sioux Falls; and his niece Cheryl Sjolin (Jeff) of Atlantic, Iowa. He is also survived by four grandchildren; a number of great and great, great grandchildren.
