She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Truman Alvin "T. A." and Elda Alma Kassel Niswonger; her children, Terry Abernathy (Amy) of Colorado Springs, Randy Abernathy (Kelly) of Hartsburg, Rev. Roger Abernathy of Farrar and Karla Buchanan (Mark) of McLeansboro, Illinois; her sister Doris Coomer of Jackson; her husband Abe Abernathy; and her daughter-in-law Julie Abernathy. She was also cherished by 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, with two expected, and two great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred by the family to Saxony Lutheran High School or United Christ Lutheran School in Frohna.
