He was predeceased by: his parents, George Herold and Louise Herold; and his sisters, Betty Herold and Ann Jungbauer. He is survived by: his wife Barbara; his children, Susan Kohn (Richard), Greg and Ashley (Joe Furnari); his grandchildren, Maddie Jeska (Jake), Evie Kohn and Zander Furnari; and his brother Dick (Kathy).

Memorials preferred to American Diabetes Association or American Association for Cancer Research.
