She was predeceased by: her parents, George Johnson and Ruth Johnson; and her son Mark Placke. She is survived by: her son Jon; her husband Gary; her brothers, Tom (Margie) and Mike (Lynn); her stepson Rand (Kelly); her grandchildren, Alyssa, Sarah, Sessahly, Brandon and Connor; and her great grandchildren, Kailey, Anthony, Pearl, Calder, Aeryn, Leta, Vaeda and Faye.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations made in Kay's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
