He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Howard Houghton and Zola Houghton (Wilcox); his brother Bill; his wife Alta (Gilbert); his children, Karen Thomas (John) and Brian Houghton (Kay); and his grandchildren, Daniel, Allison, Amelia Thomas, Luke, Noah and Ellie Houghton. He was also cherished by children and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Don's name to The Jesus Film Project or North Haven Church.
