He was predeceased by: his parents, Harvey Alsum and Elizabeth Alsum; and his brothers, Gerald, Bernard and Kenneth.

He is survived by: his wife Mariann Brouwer; his sons, David Alsum (Jennifer) and Steven Alsum (Cathy); his grandchildren, April, Sarah, Andrew and Caleb; and his siblings, Marvin Alsum (Joann), Norman Alsum (Ruth) and Dorene Hengeveld (Nick).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made "In Memory of Donald J. Alsum" to either Pleasant Valley Evangelical Free Church or St. Mary's University.
