He was predeceased by: his parents, William Vellema and Isabell Vellema (Bonsma); his father-in-law Harold Reitmeier; and his siblings-in-law, Lois Gleason, Larry Dykstra and Jim Reitmeier.
He is survived by: his wife Diane Vellema of Windom; his daughters, Tina Anderson (Gene) of Lakewood, CO and Teresa Haken (Shawn) of Windom; his grandchildren, Austin Haken (Amanda), Mitchell Haken, Jacob Anderson and Hannah Anderson; his siblings, Stan Gleason of Natalia, TX, LaVon Dykstra of Bigelow and Linda Brooker (Lucius) of Lone Tree, CO; his mother-in-law Lettie Reitmeier of Bigelow; his siblings-in-law, Al Reitmeier (Connie) of Bigelow, Ardella Reitmeier of Brewster and Jan Henningsen (Dave) of Sibley, IA; and his godsons, Troy Askeland, Jason Reitmeier and Casey Warner. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Memorials will be directed to the Veteran's Memorial in Windom for placement of a bench in honor of Jim.
