He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Benson and Verdna Benson (Monson); his grandson Kyle; and his brother Chuck. He is survived by: his wife Ellen Mae Rupp; his children, Randy Benson, Lisa Benson-Smith and Deb Koerner (Jack); his grandchildren, Peter, Drake, Joel and Jennifer; his great grandchildren, Jayce, Max and Tessa; and his pet Rocky. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
