He was predeceased by: his parents, Boutwell "Burton" and Grace Rustad (Hande); and his brother Philip Rustad. He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Rustad of Willmar, MN; his children, Mike of Pipestone, MN, Steve of Spicer, MN, Julie of Willmar, Jodi VandeSteeg (Larry) of Willmar and Dana of Willmar; his sister-in-law Phyllis Rustad; and his niece Holly Danielson (Ben). He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
