He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Kalis and Loretta Kalis (Horn); his brother Francis; his brothers-in-law, Norbert Wanzek and Harlin Schow; his parent-in-law Martha Johnson; his nephew Fred Wanzek; and also Arnold Johnson.
He is survived by: his wife Violet Kalis of Albert Lea; his sister Elaine Wanzek; his children, Joe Kalis (Sonja) of Rochester, MN, John Kalis (Diana) of Albert Lea, MN, Jackie Stiernagle (David) of Arp, TX and Jeffrey Kalis (Kelley) of Rochester, MN; and his grandchildren, Jeni Kalis, Jared Kalis, Jessica Hendriks (Allen), Samantha Kalis (Landon Hall), Kelly Dill (Brandon), Sarah Polis-Mares, Caleb Stiernagle, Nicholas Stiernagle, Mallory Rose (Kenny) and Taylor Muetzel. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family requests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.
