He was predeceased by: his parents, Ephriam Thompson and Ella Thompson; his wife Linda Bratland; his siblings, Norman Thompson (Gloria) and Eileen Okerstrom (Ron); and his sister-in-law Joy Thompson.
He is survived by: his children, Lori Banitt (Darryl) of Cannon Falls, MN and Kyle Thompson (JoAnn) of Farmington, MN; his grandchildren, Rachael Thompson, Nathan Thompson of Farmington, MN, Sam Banitt (Arianne) of Red Wing, MN and Kari Banitt of Richfield, MN; his great grandchild Theo of Red Wing, MN; and his brothers, Ron Thompson (Jeanette) of Red Wing, MN and Monte Thompson of Fargo, ND. He is also survived by 3 step grandchildren and 12 step great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Vasa Lutheran Cemetery or Donor's choice.
