He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. John Shields and Audrey Shields (Voss). He is survived by: his wife Deb; his children, Noah and Hannah; his brother Edward; his parents-in-law, Ruben and Angie Cevallos; his sister-in-law Michelle Lopez (Pete); and his nephews, Ryan Garcia and Adrian Martinez.

“I was a year behind Kevin at DeSmet High School but we were on the hockey team together. Nick Kube sent me the information on Kevin's passing. I was with Pat Alexander, Dave Hill and Brad Wiley (we all played hockey at DeSmet) at a hockey camp where we were all coaching and speaking to youth hockey players. I will be sending a donation from the myself from the proceeds of the hockey camp to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Sending our thoughts and prayers to your family.”
