He was predeceased by: his wives, Renee Schafer (Bergman) and Comfort Charlotte Schafer (Linder); his daughter Ginny Schafer; and his parents, Louie Schafer and Jennie Schafer (Olafson).
He is survived by: his sons, Scott Schafer and Steven Schafer; his siblings, Kenneth Schafer and Nancy Rice (Schafer); his granddaughter Rebecca Schafer; and his stepchildren, Jodie Behling (Linder), Marie Barta (Linder), Tony Linder and Maggie Linder. He is also survived by 11 step-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.
