He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Scherping and Veronica Scherping (Rau); his brothers, Clarence and Albin; his siblings-in-law, Marlene Scherping and John W. Johnson; his brother Ed; and his sister-in-law Rose Modey.
He is survived by: his sons, Dan of Hawley, Minnesota, Mark (Tonya) and James (Katherine); his wife Barb; his grandchildren, Talin, Katelyn of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Stephanie, Brianna and Amanda of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; his daughter Susan Garmen (Greg); his grandsons, Matt, Nick and Jack of Crookston, Minnesota.; his sister Yvonne Johnson of Fargo; his sister-in-law Erna Scherping of Apple Valley, Minnesota.; and his brother James.
