He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Swanson and Anna Swanson of Warren; his wife Phyllis; his brothers, Earl, John Evald, Marvin and Arnold (Aryla Kae); and his grandson Nicholas.

He is survived by: his family, Steven Swanson (Diane) of Grand Forks, ND, Katie (Andy Sherlock), Fergus Falls, Matthew (Daniall Deis), Greg Swanson (Tammie) of Fargo, ND and Tiffany Blinn (Levi) of Kindred, ND; his daughter-in-law Alice Swanson of Moorhead, MN; his great grandchildren, Trey Theisen, Holtyn, Laekyn, Brextyn Swanson and Olivia Blinn; and his sisters-in-law, Marlys of Houston, TX, Patty of Tucson, AZ and Hansena of Salinas, CA..
