He was predeceased by: his parents, Melroy Windhorst and Verona Windhorst (Post); and his siblings-in-law, Garvin and Helen Broin. He is survived by: his wife Sue Windhorst of Wanamingo; his daughters, Jodie Blakstad (Chad) of Zumbrota and Jamie Quam (Bradley) of Zumbrota; his grandchildren, Dana, Danielle Blakstad, Brandi O'Reilly (Kelby), Tyler Quam (Shelby), Alyssa Friese (Marshall), Lyndsey and Natalye Quam; his great grandchildren, Serenity, Noah, Gabriella, Liam and Kinsley; his sister Joan Swanson (Jon); and his sister-in-law Kathy Nardinger (Rod).
