He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilfred Schmitz and Sally Schmitz (Louis); his wife Barbara Schmitz; his parents-in-law, Clinton and Dorothy Luthy; and his brothers-in-law, Lynn Luthy and Craig Luthy.
He is survived by: his children, Derek Schmitz (Kristen) of Chaska and Jaclyn Relander (Ricky) of Aitkin; his granddaughters, Emma and Hadley Schmitz; and his siblings, Jean Martinson (Francis) of Cologne, Ken Schmitz (Judy) of Colorado, Steve Schmtiz (Joan) of St. Bonifacius, Jane Corpus (Leon) of Mound and Theresa Willems (Mark) of Cologne. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
