He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles R. and Doc. He is survived by: his wife Anne Doyle Smit of Wabasha; his children, Matthew Smit (Megan) of Fargo, N. D., Teresa Kovich (Matt), Forest Park, Thomas Smit and Luke Smit; his siblings, Stephen Smit (Linda) and Linda Lewis (Patrick) of Winona; and also, Sara Katherine, Sally and North St. He is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews.
