He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Remortel and Dorothy Van Remortel (Brantner); and his brother Fred. He is survived by: his wife Julie; his daughter Stacy McNeil (Ian); his grandchildren, Lauryn (Spencer), Austin (Sidney), Paige and Natalie; his great grandchildren, Sierra, Miles, Lennon and Tatum; his stepson Erik Anderson; his stepgrandchildren, Cole and Savannah; his stepdaughter Nicole Brodin (Peter); and his siblings, Sally Quella (Gene) and Richard Van Remortel (Patty). He is also survived by other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to donor's choice or St. Nicholas Prayer Garden.
