He was predeceased by: his parents, August Petersen and Mahala Petersen (Johannsen); his wife Barbara Schmidt; his daughter Rebecca Sue; his siblings, Margaret, Anna, Marie, John, Edmund and Leonard; his siblings-in-law, Don Bilsten, Wibur Harm, Marvine Petersen, Ralph Martine, Carl Segebart, Loueen Petersen and Marion Petersen; and his son-in-law Roger Block.
He is survived by: his children, Tim of Detroit Lakes, Kathy Block of Jamestown, ND, Carla Yenko (Tom) of Bremerton, WA, Martina Stevens of Iowa Park, TX, Roberta Petersen of Jamestown, ND and Jennifer Krause of Detroit Lakes, MN; his sisters, Betty Kitt (Dennis) of Denison, IA and Berneice Segebart of Vail, IA; and his sister-in-law Arlis Petersen of Ute, IA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren.
