He was predeceased by: his parents, Victor Nelson and Lucile Bell Nelson (Peacock); his siblings, Betty Neitzel, Byron Nelson and Gary Nelson; and his nephew Rodney Plantz.
He is survived by: his wife Pearl Nelson of Pipestone, MN; his children, Charles Nelson (Colleen) of Tyler, MN, Dora Rupp (Allen) of St. Peter, MN, Joanne Herring (Scott) of Omaha, NE, Michael Nelson (Julie) of Holland, MN, Julie Houselog of Bakersfield, CA and James Nelson (Tami) of Ruthton, MN; and his siblings, Diane Armstrong of Weston, MO, David Nelson of Pequot Lake, MN, Raymond Nelson (Lucille) of Fargo, ND and Lynn Nelson (Katherine) of Windom, MN.. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
