He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Carlson and Pauline Carlson (Armata); his wife Shirley Chipperi; his siblings, Rose, Shirley, Jean, William and Susie; and his grandson Jeremy.

He is survived by: his children, Terry Moen (Rich), Sandy Carlson (Tom), Dennis Carlson (Wendy) and Debbie Nelson; his grandchildren, J. J. Hraban (Kelly), Mandy Hraban (Rachel), Shawn Carlson (Heather), Corey Carlson, Casey Carlson (Katty), Tanya Nelson and Tyler Carlson; and his brothers, Stanley and Rick. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
