He was predeceased by: his parents, Elmer Johnson and Emma Johnson (Peglau); his wife Marilyn Johnson; his son-in-law Dennis Garbers; his grandchildren, Steve Noble and Cristie Sue Lenort; and his siblings-in-law, Roland Hartmann, Lester Miller, Rollo Reckard, Werner Glienke, Burnetta Reckard and Esther Glienke.

He is survived by: his children, Dennis Johnson (Sharon), Melodie Garbers, Wayne Johnson (Rita), Mary Lenort (Mark), Debra Scruggs (Darren), Charles Johnson (Thom Peterson) and Susan Wiederhoeft (Wayne); his grandchildren, Corey Johnson (Tricia), Karen Brown (Cory), Jeanne Walden (Andrew), Laura Glade (Tony), Leah Noble, Courtney Lenort, Nicole Lenort, Matthew Traetow (Allissa), Thomas Traetow (Bethany), James Traetow, Detrik Scruggs, Evan Scruggs, Aaron Wiederhoeft and Tyler Wiederhoeft; and his sister Adeline Hartmann.

The family asks that people are mindful of social distancing guidelines, wearing masks and best practices in helping to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
