He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Lauer and Amy Lauer (Gabrielson); his former wife June; and his siblings, Pink and Clare.

He is survived by: his wife Jan; his children, Nick (Pam), Beth Nelson (Jim), Amy Lauer, Jo Nelson (Rick) and Tim (Dar); and his cousin Jerry Lauer (Lucy). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
