He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Patrick, Sr and Elizabeth Josephine Gessell (Birchem); his brothers, Donald and Richard; his parents-in-law, Louis, Gladys Heroux, Robert Heroux, Cordy Heroux and Richard Lentz; and his niece Collette Wilkens (Gessell).
He is survived by: his wife Shirley Heroux; his children, Chad (Annie Kothe) and Jessica (Chad Hofmann); his granddaughters, Elizabeth Gessell, Abigail Gessell (Kevin Joswiak), Lillian Jokinen and Anastasia Hofmann; his brothers, John (Marge) and Frank (Helen); and his parents-in-law, Noreen Gessell, Lucy Gessell, George Heroux, Joyce Olson and Mary Lentz. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers that memorials be made in Joe's memory to St Jude's Hospital, Love a Child, Inc. or Quiet Oaks Hospice House-St Augusta.
