He was predeceased by: his cousins, Matt Thielen, Henry, Kathleen Mauer (Greenwood) and Brian Orloske; and his aunt Mary Mauer.

He is survived by: his significant other Ruth Keicher; his sister Rebekah Thielen Barnes (Dean); his nieces, Cecelia Thielen and Naomi Barnes; his nephew Elias Barnes; and also, LeRoy, Michael and Deborah Thielen.
