He was predeceased by: his parents, Clovis Smidt and Dorothy Smidt (Stevenson); his siblings-in-law, Betty Smidt, Harriet Waibel, Duane Luedke, Chuck Swanson, Bob Swanson, Mike Baird and Bob Crace; and also Jeannette.

He is survived by: his wife Jeannette; his children, Becky Fredricksen (Buck) of Stewartville, David Smidt (Diane) of Stewartville, Marybeth Hemann (Norb) of Stacyville, IA, John Smidt of Nehelam, OR, Amy Myhrvold (Rob) of Stewartville and Mark Smidt (Christa) of Stewartville; his grandchildren, Matthew Smidt (Jessi), Tricia Knutson (Tony), Jacque Karaus (Josh), Will Fredricksen (Amanda), Hannah Hemann (Bryan Reiter), Michael Smidt (Shelby), Laura Bain (Josh), Michelle Hulshizer (Skyler), Tyler Smidt, Kaylee Smidt (Carter Jannsen), Autumn Smidt, Connor Myhrvold, Nathan Smidt and Megan Myhrvold; his great grandchildren, Charlie Knutson, Penelope Smidt, Grayson Fredricksen, William Knutson, Quentin Smidt, Lucy Knutson, Caleb Fredricksen, Kaitlyn Smidt and Ellie Hulshizer; his stepgrandsons, Wyatt Groth and Gavin Harrison; his sisters, Shirley Luedke of Anchorage, AK and Kathy Crace of Peterson, MN; his sister-in-law Marsha Baird of Reseda, CA; his brothers, Glenn Smidt of Babbitt, MN, Ken Smidt (Gail) of Racine, MN and Jerry Smidt of Austin, MN; and his brother-in-law Dean Waibel of Phoenix, AZ.. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
