He was predeceased by: his parents, George Wendall Sr. and Dorothy Ethel Whitmer (Waits); his wife Martha Jean; his son Christopher Whitmer (Harriet); and his sister Rosemarie Zurface.
He is survived by: his children, David Whitmer (Toni), Marylou Whitmer and Heidi Hanson (Jason); his grandchildren, Caleb Banks (Brianna), Megan Kandler (Blaize), Shane Banks, Andrew Hanson, Christopher Todd Whitmer Jr., Emily, Tiffany, Tabitha, Taylor, Trinity, Lilly and Kendal Whitmer; his brother-in-law Terry Zurface; and his nieces, Tiara and Heather. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren.
