He was predeceased by: his parents, Adolph Nelson and Alma Nelson (Koecher); his siblings, Marlyn Priebe, David Nelson and Norma Frenning; his grandson Tyler Schmidt; and his son Matthew.
He is survived by: his wife Donna Olson; and his children, Christine Schmidt of Stacy, Claudine Vogel (Todd) of Pine City, Marshal Nelson of Stacy and Charline Nelson of Stacy. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
