He was predeceased by: his wife Barbara Ann; his parents, Louis Zacharias and Erna Zacharias; his siblings, Sandra Anderson and Richard Zacharias; and his pets, Ringo and Carlos.

He is survived by: his children, Julia Beseke (Bill), Vicki Zacharias, Keile LaMotte and Sherri Zacharias; his grandchildren, David Lewandowski, Charles Zacharias, Michael Lewandowski and Zach LaMotte; his great grandchildren, Hunter, Colin, Elizabeth and Andrew; his sister Judith Zacharias; his girlfriend Judith O'Claire; and his son-in-law Greg Belko. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

“My Deepest Sympathies... Zach was a Lawman's lawman. I had the pleasure to know him first as Sheriff of Ramsey County and good fortune to then work for him for 8 years as United States Marshal for the District of Minnesota. Our relationship grew from one of respect to friendship. I could never have asked for more than I got from Zach. Although our paths went separate ways after he retired I've continued to look back on those days as some of the best of my career. Thanks Zach and RIP Marshal.”
