She was predeceased by: her parents, Henry Chroup and Myrtle Chroup; her husband Lavern Schmit of John's Catholic Church; her brother Howard; her parents-in-law, John and Ann Schmit; and her grandson-in-law Alan Fromm.

She is survived by: her children, Curtis Schmit (Mary) of Randolph, WI, Charles Schmit of Belview, MN, Pamela May (Tom) of Mankato, MN, Terry Schmit (Debra) of New Ulm, MN and Scott Schmit of Springfield, MN. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
