He was predeceased by: his parents, Einer Nelsen and Ann Nelsen (Thorston); his wife Phyllis Krueger; his sisters, Dorothy and Audrey; and his brothers-in-law, Victor Rasmussen, Robert Cupp and Philip Jensen.
He is survived by: his sister Jeanette Jensen; his children, Colleen Hayes (James) of Lakeville, MN, Diane DeMarco (Attilio) of Frederick, MD, Brian Nelsen (Tamara) of Woodbury, MN and Janean Tucker (Terry) of Duluth, MN.; his stepgrandsons, Ken (Chandra) and Keith Hayes (Andrea); his grandchildren, Nyssa Zacher (Matt), Serena DeMarco, Seve DeMarco and Calista Tucker; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Madeleine and Kyle Hayes (Michelle); and his great great grandchildren, Emmalyn and Lily Hayes.
The family has designated memorials to the Sundown Cemetery Association and St John Circle of Care in Springfield.
