He was predeceased by: his brother-in-law Gary Mattison. He is survived by: his wife Norma; his children, Joel Merkel (Becky) of Spring Valley, Jake Merkel (Peggy) of Spring Valley, Julie Eiffler (Dustin) of Cresco, IA and Jared Merkel (Dana) of Rolling Stone, MN; his grandchildren, Katarina, Cody, Gavin, Elias, Audrey, Asher, Pearl Henry, Maia, Kilena and Ruby; and his siblings, Barbara Mattison of Spring Valley, MN, Gene Merkel (Darlene) of Spring Valley, MN, Vicki Bowen (Paul) of Lime Springs, IA, Carol Broadwater (Gary) and Steve Merkel (Sandy). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.
