He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Maury Mertens and Sandy Mertens (Gress); and his siblings, Matt Mertens (Anne), Mitch Mertens and Marce Selvey (Rick). He was also cherished by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
