He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Schmidt and Margaret Schmidt (Baade); his close friend Bill Lauer; his brother-in-law Bob Barta; his great-nephew Zach Barta; and his parents-in-law, Harvey and Thelma Mitchell.
He is survived by: his wife Deb of South Haven; his children, Christian of St. Louis Park and Gretchen Etzler (Jeremy) of Otsego; his grandchildren, Graham and Sloan; his sister Pam Barta of Gayville, SD; and his brothers-in-law, Dan Mitchell (Cari) of Florida and Dennis Mitchell (Barb) of Florida. He is also survived by other family members and friends.
Memorials are preferred Quiet Oaks Hospice or Zion Lutheran Church.
