He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd E. Olive and Mary Olive; his brother Neil; and his nephew Brian Mertz. He is survived by: his wife Lyndall; his children, Mary Carney (Tom) of Shoreview and Paul Eric Mertz, Jr. (Amy) of Lincolnshire, Illinois; his sister Janet Mertz of San Antonio; his sister-in-law Paula Mertz of Socorro; his niece Andrea Gurrola (Raymond) of Albuquerque; his brother-in-law Dean Kauffman of Palm Springs; and his grandchildren, Christopher Mertz, River and Rose Carney.
Memorials to the Minnesota Historical Society or Presbyterian Church of the Way are much appreciated.
