He was predeceased by: his wife Mary; his son Richard; and his parents, Gerhard Schmitt and Eleanor Schmitt (Jansen). He is survived by: his children, Dave (Terri), Tim, Brad Schmitt (Denise) and Lisa Dehn (Robert); his daughter-in-law MJ Maynard; his grandchildren, Jesse (Jenny), Holly, Dylan, Taylor Schmitt, Anthony LaFromboise and Quinn Maynard; his great grandchild Hayes Schmitt; his close friend Rosie Schoenecker; and his siblings, Barbara Tobias, Howard Schmitt, Jeannette Stemmer (Pete) and Karen Frana (Jeff). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
