He was predeceased by: his parents, Emil Nelson and Julia Nelson (Weston); his wife Kathryn Johnson of Menahga; and his siblings, Evelyn, Cyrus, Vernon and Max.
He is survived by: his brothers, Harold Nelson of Anoka and Roy Nelson of Menahga; his children, Bert Nelson (Pamela), Mark Nelson of New York Mills and Karen Townsend (Joe) of Garner, Iowa; his grandchildren, Terrance Nelson, Adrianne Gillick (Chad), Margaret Nelson, Seth Townsend (Tiffany) and Jaron Townsend; his great grandchildren, Gabriel, Raphael and Gillick; and his brother-in-law Jerry (Marlene). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
