He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Smolnik and Selda Smolnik (Gehrke); and his siblings, Jim, Dick and Elaine Poepping.
He is survived by: his wife Marge; his children, Mike Smolnik of Sauk Rapids and Lynn Schroeder (Scott) of Sauk Rapids; his granddaughters, Lucy Schroeder (Mitch Trane) and Grace Schroeder; and his great grandchild Wyatt Trane.
In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church or Prince of Peace Lutheran School.
