He was predeceased by: his brother Eric; and his grandparents, Emil, Vivian Kelm, Archie and Florence Helgeson.

He is survived by: his parents, Chet Kelm and Sherry Kelm (Helgeson) of Longville; his wife Patty Blackstad of Sauk Rapids; his sons, David (Whitney) of Sauk Rapids, Chet (Emily) of Sartell and Christopher of Sauk Rapids; his siblings, Todd (Rachelle) of Sartell, Jennifer Peterson (Brett) of Sauk Rapids and Jessica Grabinski (Michael) of Sauk Rapids; and his grandchildren, Adeline, Beckett, Liam, Harper, Griffin, Eric, Cade and Barrett.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Prince of Peace Lutheran school.
