It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Russell of Sartell, Minnesota, born in Independence, Iowa, who passed away on January 15, 2022, at the age of 84, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph "Shorty" Russell and Viola Russell (Oakes); and his sister Cathie Duke. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Russell of Sartell; his daughters, Jodi Copley (Craig) of Petaluma, CA and Becky Friday (Ken) of St. Cloud; his grandchildren, Tara Fazzio (Paul), Michael Copley (Lianne), Allison Copley and Daniel Friday (Mariah); his great grandchildren, Preston Fazzio, Liam Copley and Jackson Friday; and his sister Lona Ralston of Illinois.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Special Olympics.

“My sincere sympathy to Mr. Russell’s family. He was truly a remarkable man. He gave me a teaching job in the summer of 1976…even though I was half an hour late for the interview! He was a caring, dedicated Special Ed. director. I have fond memories of him teasing me about taking students to a Twins game each summer. Mr. Russell, Rest In Peace.❤️ Teri Kroll”
