Margueritte Sarah Betts Obituary

Margueritte (Peggy) Betts passed away at her home on September 7, 2021 with her family by her side.

Peggy was born on November 19, 1935, in Minneapolis MN to Arnold and Irene Rolland (VanSchepen) at home. The Doctor came and told Arnold, 'I will be back in the morning to fill out the birth and death certificates at the same time'. Arnold put her in a cigar box with a hot water bottle for a crib and fed her warm brandy with an eye dropper. When the Doctor finally came back, he could not believe she was still alive, and they took her to the hospital where she remained in an incubator for three months.

Peggy attended and graduated from Vocational school in Minneapolis.

Peggy married Eugene Betts on May 20, 1972.

Peggy loved animals and loved being on the farm with them, where she had donkeys, horses, cows and sheep at times. She loved to ride horse when she was younger.

Peggy worked for the Hinckley Lions selling pull tabs at Tobies for over thirty years where she made many lasting friendships.

Peggy was an avid gardener who had a green thumb to match. She was known for her beautiful flowers and lavish vegetable gardens. If you stopped by to visit her you would leave with a geranium or catalpa tree.

Peggy was preceded in death by her father and mother, Arnold and Irene Rolland. Her husband Eugene Betts, her sister Lila Larson, her brother-in-law Wayne Larson, and uncle Ed VanSchepen.

Peggy is survived by her brother Allan Rolland (Elfrieda) of Fridley, sister Elizabeth (Betty) Rolland of New Brighton; daughters Diane Ziwicki of Onamia, Beverly Roberts of Sandstone; one son Arnold Betts of Sandstone; grandchildren Ben Johnson, Jesse (Sabrina) Roberts, Adam (Tiffany) Ziwicki, Sarah Ziwicki, Samuel Ziwicki, Isla Laursen, fourteen great-grandchildren, and many other family and friends.

A funeral service will be held for Peggy on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the Sandstone Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Chris Cundiff officiating. Visitation will be held at the Methven Funeral Home chapel on Friday, September 17, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Spring Park Cemetery following the service.
