He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin Henkel and Rosalie Henkel (Luoma); his brothers, Ramon and Roy; and his great grandchild Brayden Henkel.
He is survived by: his wife Virginia Kalafut Henkel of Sandstone; his children, Daniel Henkel (Susan) of Stillwater, Cindy Pitts (John) of Sandstone, Randy Henkel (Sue) of Finlayson and Mark Henkel (Rachael) of Finlayson; and his siblings, Sally Wolkening of Florida, Carole McNeill of Minneapolis, Gerry Henkel of Two Harbors and Roland Henkel (Judy) of Finlayson. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
