She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Will Schafer and Emma Schafer (Welker); her brother Elmer; her nephew Ronald; her sons, Todd (Betsy) and Jeffrey; her husband Stan; her son John (Cindy); her grandchildren, Claire, Sam, Luke (Courtney) and Ellie; her great grandchild Noah; her son Jeff (Barb); her grandchildren, Carlee, Joel (Hannah) and Natalie; and her siblings-in-law, Sterling "Bud" Benson and Florence Schafer.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be given to the Stan and Marie Benson Scholarship at Gustavus Adolphus College.
