Winton Oftelie Obituary
Winton Oftelie of Saint Paul passed away peacefully on October 30th 2023. Formerly of Minneapolis, Indianapolis and Thief River Falls, he was born March 9, 1942 (Thief River Falls) to Alma and Oliver Oftelie (deceased). He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathy Nordquist Mohn Oftelie, and sons Anders Oftelie (Saint Paul) and Alexander Oftelie (Minneapolis) and his brother Dale Oftelie (Roseville).
Also survived by Liz Schewe (Eden Prairie), Meg Hunter (Saint Paul), Becky Wyrick (Indpls), Linda Wyrick (Indpls), Laurie Such (Indpls), Cheryl Rairdon (Indpls), Kevin Rairdon (Indpls), Sarah Oftelie (Anoka), Nancee Oftelie (Gainesville), Joel Bjorkquist (Minneapolis). Predeceased by siblings Heloris Grimsley (Indpls), Adeline Vermillion (Indpls), Gladyce Hamerness (Richfield), Joan and Howard Ferris (Indpls), Bea and Jerry Rairdon (Indpls), Duane and Rosie Oftelie (Roseville). He graduated from Thief River Falls High School and attended Ball State and the University of Minnesota.
A 33 year employee of Onan Corporation, he also owned Gopher Striping Company (45 years) and Trackside Racing. Winton loved people and the community: he was past president of the Midway Y’s men, and was proud to lead a delegation to their international conference. Winton also loved vintage cars and car racing, Gopher hockey, reading anything he could get his hands on and travel, both domestic and international.
Memorials preferred to the University of Minnesota school of Engineering, Thief River Falls Amateur Hockey Association, or the Sons of Norway Foundation.
