He was predeceased by: his parents, Wenzel Shimek and Aileen Shimek (Pepin); his sister Judy; his brother-in-law Roland Backstrom; his brother David Shimek; and his brothers-in-law, Vince Dorazio, Richard Ahlberg and Roger Letourneau.
He is survived by: his wife Karen; his son Dan; his daughter-in-law Sarah; his grandchildren, Isaac, Simon and May; his siblings, Mary Dorazio and Jim Shimek (Lil); and his in-laws, Dianne Shimek, Keith Letourneau (Sandy), Ken Letourneau (Kathy), Kathie Ahlberg (Letourneau) and Olivia Brown (Tom). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
