He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Ahler and Elisabeth Ahler (Bernert); and his siblings, Edward Ahler (Audrey), SJ, Mary Van Beek (Douglas) and Regina Ahler.
He is survived by: his wife Cynthia Laramy Ahler; his stepchildren, Catherine Evans Semlak (Patrick), Charles Evans (Colleen Brown), Karen Evans (David Clemmens) and Andrew Evans; his stepgrandsons, Alexander Lundblad and William Hanson; his former wife Mary Kirschling Ahler; his children, Philip "P. J." Ahler (Deborah Dow Ahler) and Melinda "Mindy" Ahler (Paul Thompson); his grandchildren, Michelle Ahler-Johnson (Christopher Johnson), Megan Ahler and Maryon Ahler Dykema (Cole); and his great grandchild Evelyn Ahler-Johnson.
