He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd Zahler and Shirley Zahler (Lien). He is survived by: his wife Rhonda Brauckman; his children, Mercedes, Peyton and Ellanor; and his siblings, Max Zahler (Linda), Martin Zahler (Sandra), James Zahler (Krista), Michelle Olson (William), Julie Franklin (Keith), Dana Zahler (Michelle) and Don Zahler. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
The St. Michael Foundation was a program set up for individuals with developmental disabilities that was initiated by his family. He served as President of the foundation at one point, and also served as a board member for NIDD.
