He is survived by: his mother Elaine Askeland (Schroeder); his wife Kim; his children, Zachary Askeland (Emma) of Lake Crystal, Kaley Hernandez (Allan) of Mankato and Aaron Askeland (Elizabeth Hallett) of Mankato; his grandchildren, Emily Claire, Elena and Everly Hernandez; and his siblings, Sonja Folven, Sandra Holthe (Craig), Susan Askeland, Sidney Askeland and Shirley Edwards (Guy). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
